flydubai (FZ, Dubai Int’l) has announced in a press release that it will wet-lease four B737-800s from Czechia’s Smartwings (Czechia) (QS, Prague Ruzyne) between December 14, 2019, and January 25, 2020.

“The continued grounding of our MAX aircraft has had a significant impact on our operations with a 30% reduction of our flying schedule. We are taking every effort to minimise disruption for our passengers and these four additional aircraft will enable more passengers to have more options to travel during the holiday season,” Chief Executive Ghaith Al Ghaith said.

The Emirati carrier currently operates forty-one B737-800s. It also has thirteen B737 MAX on the ground, including eleven B737-8s and two B737-9s, the ch-aviation fleets advanced module shows. flydubai has firm orders for another 237 B737 MAX, including sixty-five -8s, fifty B737-10s, and 122 unassigned variants.

For its part, Smartwings operates nineteen B737NG jets, including two B737-700s, fifteen -800s, and two B737-900(ER)s. The airline also has seven B737 MAX 8s on the ground and ten B737-800s on seasonal fleet swaps to Sunwing Airlines (WG, Toronto Pearson) in Canada. Subsidiaries Smartwings (Hungary), Smartwings (Poland), and Smartwings (Slovakia) operate one B737-800 each.
